I heard my wife singing today, and it was amazing. I wish she would sing more often, because her voice is like an angel beckoning me to heaven. Sweet and earnest, unpolished and without pretense. Slightly plaintive, and not a bit saccharine.
I would post here a link to the video from that time Robin and Adam sang for my parents, but I'm afraid I would need to get permission first, as she can be a little shy about it. But it sure fills my heart with joy to hear it!

Number 38 - Trust
This ballsy lady does not freak out when I do crazy things. It feels good to be in a true partnership based on trust.

36 - She gets it about family
She knows what makes a family important. She gets that she is a part of my parents' family, and that they are a part of hers. In so many ways, we both finally have a family, and it feels especially good that mine has embraced her so completely, and that she appreciates it.

Thirty Five - She does not like Neil Young!
I think it is truly amazing that this lady of mine has strong opinions of her own, and it does not matter if I love love LOVE something, she will not wishy-washily switch her views to mesh with mine. She doesn't want her tuna steak raw in the middle just because I (and all the nouvelle cuisine foodies) prefer it that way. And she isn't about to shift her strong dislike of Neil Young based solely on the sweet tender sentiments expressed in these song lyrics, which now always make me think of us:
"Harvest Moon"
Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
Just like children sleepin'
We could dream this night away.
But there's a full moon risin'
Let's go dancin' in the light
We know where the music's playin'
Let's go out and feel the night.
Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.
When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.
But now it's gettin' late
And the moon is climbin' high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin' in your eye.
Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.
You know, these words make me want to take her hand in mine and trudge happily out into our future, taking risks and seeing what we can do in the time that we have left.
Aw, heck, you knew I was going to...

Dirty Floor - Dressed to Impress
It seems that women's work is never done, and I think that is perhaps due to their general industriousness, which eclipses that of men. Over the years, they have been in charge of taking care of the house and the family, and now more than ever they also work outside the home. It is crazy.
And the man feels like he has really stepped up his game when he spends an hour or two watching the kids once in a while, or he folds a basket of laundry and goes shopping. My wife, for example, seems to do 90% of the work around here, and when I do the other 10%, I somehow manage to soak up 50% of the glory and accolades. What it comes down to here, for this post, is that she makes sure I have clothes to wear.
